Your Gifts Have Purpose

Your Gifts Matter and Your Role Is Essential!

Kindle the Word (Scripture): “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11 (NIV)

Stoke the Spirit (Reflection): Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “I wish I had their talent”? Maybe someone else’s voice moves people to tears, or they lead with confidence, or serve with energy and grace. It’s easy to admire the gifts of others—and just as easy to overlook our own.

But Scripture reminds us of something powerful: the gifts we’ve been given—our talents, skills, and spiritual capacities—are not only good, they are given in love and with purpose.

Fireside Thoughts (Devotional Insight): In Matthew 7:11, Jesus tells us that if earthly parents know how to give good gifts to their children, “how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him?” Our God is generous and intentional. He doesn’t hand out abilities at random. He crafts each of us with care and equips us with exactly what we need for the life He’s called us to live.

And in 1 Corinthians 12, the Apostle Paul uses the image of the body to show us how we all fit together. The eye isn’t meant to be a hand. The foot doesn’t try to hear. Each part has its role, and when each one functions as it was designed, the body is whole, healthy, and strong.

That means your gift matters. Your role is essential.

You weren’t made to compare or compete—you were made to contribute. And when you embrace your unique design, the body of Christ functions as it was meant to.

Embers to Carry (Challenge): What is one gift or strength you’ve overlooked or downplayed that God may be inviting you to use more boldly?

Ignite Action (Application): This week, identify one opportunity to use that gift—whether it’s encouraging a brother, serving someone in need, or stepping into leadership. Choose obedience over hesitation.

Gather ’Round (F180 Group Connection): Take time to share with the group one gift you’ve either hidden or hesitated to use. Encourage one another to walk in those gifts and look for ways to support each other in using them.

Fan the Flames (Prayer): Father, thank You for creating me with intention and gifting me with exactly what I need to live out the purpose You’ve set before me. Help me to stop comparing, and start trusting. Show me how to use my gifts to serve others and strengthen the body of Christ. May I walk confidently in the calling You’ve placed on my life. Amen.

Keep It Burning (Memory Verse): “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” - 1 Corinthians 12:27 (NIV)
