Honor God by Taking Care of What’s in Your Hand

"What is that in your Hand?"

Opening Scripture:

“Then the Lord said to him, ‘What is that in your hand?’ ‘A staff,’ he replied.” —Exodus 4:2

Introduction: Sometimes, we underestimate the significance of what God has already placed in our hands. Like Moses, we may see only a staff—ordinary, unimportant—but in God’s hands, it becomes a tool for miracles. Similarly, in the parable of the talents, the servants who faithfully stewarded what they were given saw it multiplied. As Jesus said, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.” —Matthew 25:21. God calls us to honor Him by faithfully taking care of what He has entrusted to us—our time, resources, relationships, and gifts—and trust that He will bring the increase.

Reflection:

When Moses stood before God at the burning bush, he doubted his ability to accomplish what God was calling him to do. But God’s question was simple: “What is that in your hand?” Moses only had a staff, but when he surrendered it to God, it became a symbol of God’s power and provision.

What has God placed in your hands today? Maybe it’s your job, your family, a skill, or even a difficult situation. Are you faithfully honoring God with it, or are you overlooking its potential? Remember, what seems small or ordinary can become extraordinary when surrendered to Him.

Fireside180 Connection:

As men in Fireside180, we’re called not only to fight the battles in our own lives but to support our brothers in theirs. Taking care of what’s in your hand—your role in your family, your gifts, and even your struggles—equips you to walk alongside others with integrity and strength. Fireside180 is about walking together, sharpening one another, and building God’s Kingdom. When you honor God with what He’s entrusted to you, you become a living testimony of His faithfulness and power to multiply your impact. Together, as we faithfully steward what’s in our hands, we can take ground for God’s Kingdom in our homes, workplaces, and communities.

Challenge:

Take a moment to reflect on three things God has entrusted to you. Write them down. Ask yourself:

  1. How can I honor God by faithfully stewarding these things?

  2. Am I trusting Him to multiply my efforts, or am I trying to control the results myself?

  3. What might God do through me if I surrender these areas to Him?

Call to Action:

This week, commit to taking care of what’s in your hand. Be intentional about how you steward your time, relationships, and resources. Trust that as you honor God in the small things, He will multiply your impact in ways you can’t imagine.

Closing Prayer:

Lord, thank You for trusting us with what You have placed in our hands. Help us to honor You by faithfully taking care of it, no matter how small or ordinary it seems. We surrender it to You, trusting that You will multiply it for Your glory. Give us wisdom and strength to walk in obedience and faith. Amen.
